Until recently, the New Orleans Saints’ history of first-round NFL Draft picks was somewhat underwhelming. Since their first draft in 1967, the Saints have only selected one player in the first round who would go on to be enshrined in the Hall of Fame. Let’s examine all of those selections in the first round of the NFL Draft dating back to 1967.
New Orleans Saints first-round draft picks in history
The Saints have only ever selected first overall in the NFL Draft once. That came back in 1981 when the team selected RB George Rogers out of South Carolina. Their one Hall of Fame-worthy selection came in 1993 with OT Willie Roaf. Outside of that, their selections have been extremely mixed in terms of their outcomes. At least until they’ve had some further success in the first round of the NFL Draft in the last 10-15 years.
