Sources: Rams agree to $80 million extension with star wide receiver Cooper Kupp

The Rams have hammered out a three-year, $80 million extension with star wide receiver Cooper Kupp, according to league sources.

The Los Angeles Rams have rewarded one of their most deserving players days after their blockbuster extension with defensive tackle Aaron Donald. The Rams have hammered out a three-year, $80 million extension with star wide receiver Cooper Kupp, according to league sources.

Cooper Kupp inks massive extension with Rams

Kupp, the NFL Offensive Player of the Year last season, is due $110 million and $75 million total guaranteed over the next five years. He led the league with 145 catches, 1,949 yards, and 16 touchdowns in 2021, taking home the historic receiving “Triple Crown.”

Kupp played a pivotal role in the Rams’ Super Bowl victory over the Cincinnati Bengals, hauling in eight receptions and two touchdowns.

Kupp, 28, was due for a raise following an offseason that’s been lucrative for elite wide receivers, including Tyreek Hill getting a four-year, $120 million deal from the Miami Dolphins, Davante Adams’ five-year, $140 million deal from the Las Vegas Raiders, and Stefon Diggs’ four-year, $96 million deal from the Buffalo Bills.

Earlier this week, Kupp said he wasn’t aiming for the biggest deal in the league. He was previously due $14.5 million in 2022 and $14.25 million in 2023.

“I’m not trying to compare myself,” Kupp said. “I’m not trying to say, ‘OK, well where was Tyreek at? All those guys that got deals, where were all those guys at? And I need to be higher than them in certain places.’

“I want this to be something we can work on together, something that’s great for the team, something that’s great for me and my family as well. That place exists, and it’s just getting there.”

Now, the Rams have reached that place with the Super Bowl MVP. And he didn’t chase the highest dollar.

“I don’t think that’s really kind of the approach that I take,” Kupp told Los Angeles reporters. “I definitely think there’s a place you want to be. There’s a place that you feel like is fair, a place for me and for this organization.

“I’m not trying to beat anybody. I’m not trying to compare myself to anyone else. It’s more about being in a place that’s just right for both sides.”
