Week 2 of the NFL preseason has mostly wrapped up, and the regular season is just over two weeks away. So are there any NFL games today? The second full weekend of the preseason is behind us. But is there a Monday Night Football game tonight to close out Week 2?
NFL games today: Is there Monday Night Football?
Last week, the first full week of the 2022 NFL preseason was split up between four days, and that did not include Monday. However, Monday Night Football is back tonight. To close out Week 2 of the preseason, ESPN will air their first Monday night game of 2022.
Atlanta Falcons at New York Jets
Start time: 8 p.m. ET
Channel: ESPN
Live stream options: ESPN+, Vidgo, fuboTV, NFL+
The Falcons enter Week 2 of the preseason on the heels of a late fourth-quarter comeback victory over the Detroit Lions a week ago. Marcus Mariota started last week’s game and looked sharp, completing both of his pass attempts for 36 yards while rushing for 23 yards and a touchdown on three carries.
The story of the game for Atlanta, however, was rookie third-round pick Desmond Ridder. The former Cincinnati quarterback passed for 103 yards and two touchdowns while also finishing as the game’s leading rusher, totaling 59 yards on the ground. While it’s clear he has room to improve — accuracy being the most notable — Ridder flashed the arm talent and athleticism that had many NFL fans intrigued by the prospect during the last draft season.
The Jets, meanwhile, come into this game off of a 24-21 win over the Philadelphia Eagles a week ago. But the story of last week for the Jets was the knee injury sustained by second-year quarterback Zach Wilson. Wilson unwisely chose to stay in bounds on a scramble, attempting to shake a defender. He stepped awkwardly and went down right away. Fortunately, Wilson avoided serious injury, and while reports suggest he’ll miss Week 1 of the regular season, it’s believed he’ll be back not too long after.
In the meantime, it will be Joe Flacco under center for Gang Green. Flacco is expected to see some action tonight as he prepares to be the likely Week 1 starter against his former team, the Baltimore Ravens.
Of note to fantasy football managers will be how the Jets rotate their running backs. Veteran Michael Carter and rookie Breece Hall remain in a competition to be the primary ball carrier for the Jets in 2022. While it’s expected that it will be a 1A and 1B type of situation rather than a clear RB1 and RB2, Hall has reportedly looked as good as advertised and could push to take more snaps as the regular season nears.
