Intriguing Players in the 2022 Dynasty Rankings
Cam Akers, RB, Los Angeles Rams
Is Cam Akers back? After being left for dead by the fantasy community and seemingly his own team, Akers has seen a significant jump in volume. Since Week 11, Akers has double-digit carries in five of his last six games, including a highly-productive Week 16 vs. Denver with 23 carries for 118 yards and three touchdowns with two receptions for 23 yards.
He cased in all three times from inside the five, including one to the left side, where Akers hit the edge and had enough speed to beat the defender to the pylon. With games coming against the Chargers and Seahawks, Akers can put a stamp on a positive second half of the season and move into the offseason with as much momentum as he has had since before his Achilles tear. He is a lower-end RB3 in dynasty rankings.
Amon-Ra St. Brown, WR, Detroit Lions
Do you remember back at the end of last season when everyone was advocating selling Amon-Ra St. Brown, saying he could never find success like that again? Sure, the streak he was on was legendary, but to assume St. Brown would just fall off a cliff was absurd. Believe it or not, you don’t need to sell off every good player you have unless you prefer to keep giving league-mates your money in a perpetual rebuild.
St. Brown has 12 games of eight targets or more and eight in the double-digits while finishing as a WR1 in five games and as a WR2 or better in 64.2% of his games so far. He is the WR7 overall in fantasy, ninth in points per game (17.6 PPR), sixth in target share (28.82%), seventh in yards after the catch/reception (5.2), and fifth in YPRR at 2.48 (minimum 75 targets). Simply put, he is elite. And somehow, I feel he is not valued correctly. St. Brown is the WR9 in PPR dynasty fantasy football rankings.
Jahan Dotson, WR, Washington Commanders
Patience is key with rookies, as you don’t know when the switch will flip and the player you saw on tape will show up. That has happened to Jahan Dotson. The rookie from Penn State has been on fire since Week 13. In his last three games, Dotson has scored a touchdown in each game while accounting for 20.1% of the targets with a 100% route participation. He’s the WR12 in PPG over this span (18.8 PPR/g), with 15 receptions on 24 targets for 235 yards.
Dotson was one of my favorite receivers in this draft as someone who plays vastly larger than his frame. I’d argue he had one of the largest catch radii for a 5’11” player you’ll find, given his body control and catch-point abilities. Dotson is the perfect compliment to Terry McLaurin.
I’m calling it now; he will be a top-100 ADP pick in next year’s fantasy drafts. Buy low on Dotson now, as once Washington adds a better QB, his ceiling and price will shoot up. He is the WR26 in the latest fantasy rankings update.
